EP REVIEW: Mist – Diamond In The Dirt

Mist – the biggest rapper to break out of Birmingham in recent times has finally dropped his long awaited EP Diamond In The Dirt.

For those of you who don’t like reading just go to our Spotify embed and press play. This EP B A N G S! The bangers just keep on coming. Afrotrap dominates the overall sound of the album – not a bad thing as it means tracks will be on every club DJs USB this year.

A dramatic intro ‘Dreams to Reality’ gives way to a hard collab with nw London rapper Nines. Synths, samples, bass and trappy hi hats combine on the Steel Banglez track to really bring Nines and MIST descriptions of the trap to life.

Next up is Uber – another multi producer linkup – Steel bangles and Zeph Ellis and Mostack and Mist team up with the lyrics. Definitely one that will be hitting the radio soon. Three tracks in we reach his first single of 2018 Gamechanger which we have all played out on repeat. It bangs. Indeed the high energy continues through out the EP. Genuinely, it can be listened to without skipping any tracks. There are tracks for the streets, tracks for the radio, ones for the mandem and a sweet pairing with Jesse Ware for the ladies.

All the collaborators are well chosen and each bring a unique enhancing element to each track without overshadowing Mist the main act. Oh and check the last track where MIST goes grime – that’s is definitely gonna get a few mosh pits going this year!

So far 2018 is shaping to be an excellent year for UK Rap and this album is further proof of that. Make sure you download or stream that ASAP. Oh and if you have tickets for his tour in March you are definitely in for a madness!
